  • Sunset & Night Photography

    Off-Site Event | Shenandoah River State Park, 350 Daughter of Stars Drive, Bentonville
     REGISTRATION REQUIRED 


    This session will meet at Cullers Overlook in the Shenandoah River State Park. We will start by capturing the sunset and then discuss the preparation steps for taking photos at night. We need the weather to cooperate and then wait for the skies to light up with stars. Bring a snack and layers if the night is chilly. A wide angle lens, tripod, and shutter release cable is helpful. The newer generations of smart phones can be great for sunset and low light photography. Note: State Park parking fee rules apply for attending this program. The Library has a limited number of LVA state park bags with passes. Availability is not guaranteed. Register for this event online.

  • Eclipse Watch Party

    On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America. This is the last time to see a solar eclipse for 20 years. Join us at the library to safely witness this rare total solar eclipse. Viewing glasses will be available. We will have solar eclipse-inspired goodies. During the event we will have stones to paint with an image of the eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 2:02 PM with the maximum coverage at 3:18 PM – so plan to arrive by 1:45 PM to enjoy a snack, get your glasses, and be ready. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to get comfortable.

    Wildflowers, especially bluebells, abound and delight. We will meet at the Shenandoah River State Park visitor center to review tips for photographing flowers. Then we will explore the boardwalk trail near the Right Campground. Be prepared to encounter muddy areas! After our hands-on session, those who have additional time can help photograph and enjoy the Park’s Bluebell Festival. There will be food trucks, live music, craft vendors, nature walks, ranger programs, and more! The Bluebell Festival is family friendly and perfect for all ages. You don't want to miss this! All types of cameras from smart phones to professional cameras and levels of photographers are welcomed. Note: State Park parking fee rules apply for attending this program.
