Outstanding Program for Adults Award was in recognition of Samuels Annual Fundraising Event, A Taste for Books. The event centers on a new literary theme each year and offers Adults a playful opportunity to support the library while enjoying a most unique party. Table Hosts feature local nonprofits to civic organizations and businesses who provide delicious “tastes” for all to enjoy.
Impactful Technology Use Award was given in recognition of Samuels new Studio 330, a combination Memory Lab and Makerspace made possible through a 5-year $500,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation. The Studio got off to a quick start in October and is well received by patrons enjoying new adult learning opportunities and the chance to digitize old memories. The sound booth activity has increased with recent oral history projects including the “Echoes of the Past” project.
Ms. Rooney stated, “This is all due to the amazing work of our dedicated staff, host of volunteers and community partners. They make these awards possible. Our libraries play a crucial role in their communities, and these awards help highlight some of the ways in which we engage and serve our patrons. It’s an opportunity to reflect on how our libraries fit into and enrich our communities in diverse and significant ways.”
