Time Capsule

Available While Supplies Last Starting June 1st

Pickup a time capsule at Samuels Library to fill, return, and wait! We're partnering with the Warren Heritage Society to offer this exciting opportunity for area families to preserve their precious memories for their future selves to rediscover in 2051!

Capsules will be available as supplies last starting June 1st, limited to one per family with children. Drop off your filled capsule to the library's Youth Reference Desk before our Time Capsule Ceremony on July 7th at 10:30 a.m.

The time capsules will be stored until July 2051 and then returned to families.

To be included in a kid's time capsule:

  • Letters to the Future: Encourage kids to write letters to their future selves, sharing their dreams, thoughts, and what they hope to achieve.
  • Photos: Include group photos of friends, family or classmates, as well as individual pictures that capture their current interests and activities.
  • Artwork or Drawings: Personal creations like drawings or paintings can showcase their creativity and artistic expression.
  • Coins or Currency: Including coins or bills can reflect the economic environment of the time and serve as a tangible piece of history.
  • Sports Memorabilia: Items like a ticket from a favorite game, a team photo, or a small trophy can represent their involvement in sports.
  • Favorite Toys or Accessories: Small toys, trinkets, or items that hold sentimental value can make the time capsule more personal.
  • Memories of Pets: Include photos or written memories of their favorite pets to preserve those cherished moments.
  • Time Capsule Journal: Create a journal where kids can document their thoughts, experiences, and milestones over time.
  • Favorite Things List: Have kids write down their current favorite things, such as foods, games, movies/TV show, and hobbies, to reflect their interests at this moment.
  • A letter from parents or grandparents: Write down what you are proud of now, some funny memory you have of them, or what your dreams are for their future.

By including these items, the time capsule will serve as a meaningful snapshot of their childhood, providing joy and nostalgia when opened in the future.

Do not include any of the following:

  • Anything with liquid, food or rubber (it will destroy other things in the time capsule)
  • Anything with any kind of batteries (they will leak overtime)
  • Anything digital (not recommended because may not be able to retrieve info in future)
  • Compostable material (will decay and damage other items in capsule)
  • Anything that may rust (staples, nails, paper clips)
REMEMBER TO TELL YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT THE TIME CAPSULE AND REMIND THEM OF THE YEAR IT WILL BE OPENED (July 2051).
